3 leather pouches of gold dust was found hidden at the base of a fireplace in a ruined mountain cabin near Yreka, California, in 1977. Yreka is a result of the Californian gold rush when Abraham Thompson discovered gold in the area, which drew many miners from the south. It’s likely that more hidden caches of gold can be found in the area. If you’ve got a metal detector, old ruins and foundations are excellent places to look for treasure.
